Union Organizing: Why Are Labor Unions So Successful?

by Jason Greer on March 10, 2010

I get it.  I finally get it.  I know you are probably reading this and thinking to yourself, “get what?” Well, let me tell you about my new found revelation.  I understand how unions are able to organize.  Now please understand, there are several books out there on the market about the tactics that unions use to organize.  Tactics such as:

1)  Floating Contracts

2) Making false promises

3) Attack Management

4) Identify Issues and Manipulate The Truth

5) Make Pre-Election Promises (But Will They Guarantee these Promises?)

6) Pass Out Flyers/Handbill In The Company’s Parking Lot

7) Conduct Home Visits

8) Meet You In Church or Community Activities

9) Convince Pro-Union Employees To Pressure Other Employees.

Sounds pretty tricky, huh?  While it is fine and dandy that we understand HOW they organize and WHO they organize, little to no attention has been applied to the HEART of what makes a union organizer so successful in organizing employees.

More to come later…
